Trip to Lor Buangkok and Geylang Serai Market

Hi all, my group would want to share with you guys about our trip to the both places stated! Enjoy!

The Interview with the hawkers at geylang serai Market Visit to Geylang Serai Market 1. Describe the market.
(e.g. surrounding, atmosphere, activities, environment, people, etc.)
The market is quite a busy place, but it is still organized. Most of the customers here are Muslims. The shops close early because there is no business in the afternoon. This is a temporary market. The original market is under renovation. The people here are quite friendly when we approach them.

2. Do a survey on the number of stalls and what who are selling what in the market. There are at least 120 stalls. They sell food, spices, clothing, medicine, cosmetics and fruits, etc......

3. Name as many different types of food, fresh produce, goods, etc. that you can see. Food: Tauhu Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Ayam Goreng, Goreng Pisang, Mee Goreng.
Fresh Produce: Poultry, Dairy Products, Fruits. Goods: Perfume, Clothing, Dried Food, Medicine.

4. Identify some of the unique features of the market such as things you don’t normally see. Unlike any other markets, this one is very organized. The food sold here are mostly Malay food. This market not only sells food, it also sells fruits, poultry, clothes, dried food stuffs etc.

5. Why do you think this place is so popular with the Malay community? Most Malays are Muslims. Hence the food stalls here do not sell pork. The products, such as perfume are non-alcoholic. The clothes here are mostly Malay clothing.

Pre-trip thoughts The market would be slippery and smelly, but we will try to cope with it. We would do our best to interview the stallholders and customers. The market may look like a normal market but I think we will enjoy it.

Post-trip Reflection I felt that trip to the two places: Geylang Serai and Lor Buangkok. It was a good one as we are able to know more about people life in a kampong and the different kind of many foods. It is an enjoyable trip.
