Book Review: Gateway to Peranakan Culture

Hi! I am Joejyn and i am here today to tell u about the amazing Peranakan Culture. I am a Peranakan myself thats why i chose this book. A brief introduction. Peranakans are people who are 'half chinese half malay'. Understand? Okay, okay. When a malay and a chinese marry together, they become Peranakans. A male Peranakan is called a Baba and a female Peranakan is called a Nyonya(sometimes spelt as Nonya). In history, Peranakans didn't know the chinese language even though they looked like chinese. Did you know that Mr Tan Tock Seng was a Peranakan? Didn't know that did you! here are some very interesting facts about Peranakans:
1)Once a girl turned 12, her life of freedom would end.She would not be allowed to leave the house and would learn proper behaviour, cooking, sewing, embroidery, beadwork, etc.
2)You might not even know that some of the foods you eat such as 'Arhar', 'Ngoh Hiang' and 'laksa' are Peranakan food. Peranakan food are mainly spicy or eaten with chilli.

Hope you enjoyed it.See you later! Bye bye(baba malay for goodbye in case you did not know).
