The keris

here. Today, i will be talking about the keris('kris' in english). The keris is a mystical weapon. it is in the form of a short dagger. read on 4 more info....


there is an old sultan's palace that contains an iron meteorite. The meteorite resembles a large, pitted rock about the breadth of a man's arm. This meteorite was brought to the palace in 1797. it had fallen some 50 years before @ an ancient temple. This mece of meteorite is regarded as holy;offerings of flowers & fruit are made to it.


This piece of meteorite is actually a larger mass which signalled its violent arrival by bursting into two seperate pieces. The smaller piece of meteorite was brought to some palace's master swordsmiths. They forged a few weapons from the piece of meteorite.
They believed tat the weapons forged would possess magic or talismanic properties. Some of this weapons, in dagger forms known as the kris, are in various mueseums. Others that are long lost to record, are no doubt in the hands of unsuspecting collectors.


Although the kris is a weapon with a blade of steel, it is rarely used in battles. Because of its lightness & inherent @ the tang, the kris is seldom used in aggressive combat & certainly was not adequate in defence against heavier weapons. Most writings about the kris talk about the magical & supernatural aspects of the kris. One would find it difficult finding writings on how to use the kris in defence or attack.

The keris's principle function has long been that of cultural association rather than a weapon for attack. This makes the keris unique among all other weapons.
